The Young Artist Program (for Singing Actors 8-13), affectionately known as YAP, has been in existence since the spring of 2003. Each fall semester, spring semester, and summer session ends with a culminating event that is created and performed by the students enrolled.


SING

  • Perform Broadway songs, folk songs and songs written especially for young people


  • Study in alternating private and group sessions with teaching artists with years of experience and special training in dealing with children’s voices


  • Use physical movement techniques to learn musicianship skills in a fun and easy way




ACT

  • Engage in theater games to learn crucial acting and ensemble skills


  • Create your own scripts based on themes that are important to you


  • Perform the scenes that you create in class in the culminating event




MOVE

  • Use movement to coordinate and strengthen the body and voice


  • Engage the body in a manner that improves focus and learning in all situations


  • Use cutting edge movement techniques to learn musicianship skills in a fun and easy way


  • Enhance your performance with movements that are accessible and appropriate for young people
